In 1999, she founded one of the first K-8 public schools that earned the highest educational rating among all of the schools within the State of Florida. Currently she is the principal of Coral Gables Elementary, A Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and an A+ Florida School.

Her message of personal development, communication, and leadership allows children of all ages to reach their full potential and get the most from their education program and from their life. She is an extensively published writer and national public speaker, and is in vast demand. Her expertise has been presented on dozens of radio programs throughout the country.

With her insights, experience and constant research Cheli has written numerous books including a best-selling series on school success called School Talk! The fifth book in the series, Homework Talk! out in July 2006 and Test Talk! out in January 2007 offer no-nonsense advice on homework, testing and school issues. Many are surprised by Cheli's diverse background and considerable accomplishments. She and her parents emigrated from Cuba to the United States in the early 1960's to avoid political persecution. She began her education in Chicago, and then moved to Miami where she continued school.

Cheli, at the age of nineteen, earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Exceptional Child and Elementary Education from Barry University. Upon graduation she put her educational career on hold to pursue a modeling career in New York, where she was quite successful, and is still a member of SAG (Screen Actors Guild).

Her passion has always been kids and education so when her son was born, she left her modeling career and went back into the classroom. Later she returned to school and attained her Masters in Education from Nova Southeastern University, and State Certification in Elementary Education, Learning Disabilities, Bilingual Education (E.S.O.L.), and Computer Science Education. Still not satisfied, Cheli pursued post-graduate work on the critical skills of leadership at Nova Southeastern University.

Recently, Cheli received the honor to serve on the Florida Advisory Council of GreatSchools.net, a nonprofit organization that provides school information for public, private, and charter schools nationwide.
